APPOINTMENTS TO REGISTRATION BOARD STILL ON HOLD

ACEC-SC and SCSPE made recommendations for individuals to take seats on the SC Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors months ago, and the Governor has not acted.

ACEC-SC and SCSPE made their recommendations to the SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies, the multi-engineering and surveying organization that ultimately makes recommendation to the Governor.  SC Law requires the Council to make these recommendations and requires the Governor to make his appointments from the names the Council sends to him.

The Council forwarded four names of individuals to the Governor for two vacant seats. At this time the Governor has failed to make his appointments, and he received the Council’s recommendations in June, 2007.

From information on the street and in political circles, the Governor wants to appoint an engineer that did not go before the Council and therefore was not nominated by the Council. The belief is that he is trying to find some way to make this appointment even though the individual was not screened or recommended according to state law.
