ACEC-SC gives Presentation to SC Association of Counties

ACEC-SC President, Haze Elliott, PE, of Columbia and 2005-2006 ACEC-SC President, Jim Broyles, PE, of Anderson represented ACEC-SC at the South Carolina Association of Counties 40th Annual Conference Friday August 3rd in Hilton Head, SC.  

Elliot requested a spot on the conference program for ACEC-SC in order to give a presentation on Quality Based Selection (QBS) to the South Carolina county managers.  With many County managers in attendance Elliot and Broyles gave them a good explanation on QBS.

To prepare for the presentation on QBS, ACEC-SC requested ACEC send a copy of its QBS power point presentation.  ACEC-SC used this PowerPoint with some changes for the presentation given to the SCAC.  Around 40 attended Elliot and Broyles explained the importance of QBS.  Towards the end of the presentation they gave our message on Buy SC.  Most where surprised that ACEC-SC had so much difficulty passing the Buy SC law when our bordering states practice in-state preference.

This presentation was a successful endeavor, and something ACEC will continue.  County managers make many decisions that can affect engineering work.  Hopefully QBS will be on these manager’s minds next time they are looking for engineers for projects.
