2007 ACEC-SC & SCSPE Annual Convention

The South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers and American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina held its 50th annual convention in Charleston, SC in June at the Francis Marion.  For the second year, SCSPE integrated a successful Tradeshow also.  Ironically, the 1957 SCSPE Convention also was held at the Francis Marion, too.

Always a great experience to any engineer, this year’s convention was no different with many different seminars, trade show and field trips.

This year SCSPE ran concurrent sessions, starting on Thursday.  Running Concurrent sessions gave engineers a choice of which Professional Development Class they wanted to attend.  Starting the convention on Thursday with the Engineers Registration Board panel discussion and ending it with a nice dinner cruise on board the Spirit of Charleston, engineers had a chance to mix business and pleasure.

On Friday, SCSPE started the day with its Annual Meeting, and continued offering pdh session s until noon.  Many enjoyed the city of Charleston in the afternoon, and others played in the SCSPE Educational Foundation golf outing.  On Saturday, ACEC-SC started the day with its Annual Meeting.  Engineers got to bring their families into the fun, when, with the help of Davis & Floyd, many engineers and their families enjoyed a PDH class on the restoration of the H.L. Hunley followed by a tour of the civil war submarine.

The annual convention wrapped up at the annual installation reception/banquet.  Peter Strub, P.E. was recognized by his peers and given the ACEC-SC Service to the Profession Award.  ACEC also honored M.L. Love for his efforts for reaching the Political Action Committee goal for 2007.  In the end ACEC-SC and SCSPE had its 50th year of offering a successful convention for its membership.
