Senator McConnell Introduces Bill that Would Remove the Board of Accountancy from the
Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation
Senator Glenn McConnell (R-Charleston) introduced a bill that would remove the SC Board of Accountancy from LLR and establish it as a stand alone regulatory board. The bill was introduced March 27, 2008 and was sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The interesting point about this legislation is that, if passed, it would take the CPAs out of LLR, and might lead the way for other regulatory boards to leave LLR, such as the SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.
Based upon conversations with other legislators, I don’t see this legislation going anywhere this session. It may not get out of committee.
