Executive Director Joe Jones Visits With Two State Senators on Highway and Bridge Funding

Joe Jones visited with Senators Cromer and Peeler to talk about highway funding this session. 

Although no commitments were made support any particular bill, both senators understand the need for additional funding for more money to fix our roads.

There are two large problems facing highway funding at this time: Money from the State Treasury, which would have to be taken from other state agencies and projects and the current price of gas. With predictions that State Revenue is going to be tight, with no surplus funds, seeking money for the DOT from the General Fund is not popular. Also, faced with the reality of this being an election year, legislators are not looking to raise gasoline user fees with the price of gas at $3.00+ throughout most of the state.
