SC House Joins Senate in Introducing Legislation to Direct Money to Highways

House Republican Caucus members introduced legislation this week dedicating money raised by the sales tax on cars to go to the State Highway Fund. This money is to be used as a dedicated stream of revenue to pay for improvements to our state’s roads and bridges.  This car sales tax currently goes to the State’s General Fund.

Rep. Annette Young (R-Summerville) said, “We can begin to repair and strengthen our state’s infrastructure. We must make these critical improvements because there is a direct link between infrastructure and growing our state’s economy.”

Legislation was filed in the Senate, sponsored by Senators McConnell and Grooms to send additional money for improvement of roads and bridges by moving the car sales tax to State Highway Fund.

Introducing these bills is the first step, getting them passed is another. Engineers contact your House member and your Senator and urge them to support these bills.
