The SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies (SCCESS) reviewed the recent appointments of SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors by Governor Sanford, a dinner for the Registration Board, the Joint Meeting and future plans.

SCCESS members were pleased Governor Sanford appointed two of the four engineers recommended by the Council, although he took months to make the appointments.  Appointed by the Governor were Mr. Charles M. (Chuck) Joye, PE, of Anderson and Ms. Theresa Hodge, PE, of Lexington.  Mr. Joe Jones informed the Council the Governor’s Office requested a copy of the Council’s procedure for selecting engineers to be recommended to the Governor.

The American Society of Civil Engineers President, Mr. Randy Cannon, said about 100 engineers attended the Mar. 28 SCCESS Joint Meeting in Charleston at the Citadel.  ASCE offered 20 sessions and SCSPE and ACEC-SC offered three.  Charleston Mayor, Joe Riley, was the keynote speaker at lunch.

Mr. Jones reported on the SCCESS dinner for the Registration Board and Deans of Engineering. He said all Registration Board members attended. The Citadel Dean, Dr. Dennis Fallon, and South Carolina State University Dean of Engineering Technology, Dr. Ken Lewis, along with, Dr. Hanif Chaudhry representing the University of South Carolina Dean came to the dinner at The Palmetto Club in Columbia.

The Council is looking at interfacing with the Registration Board in other formats in the future.
