Legislative Watch: (S. 892)

As the New Year gets closer, the usual buzz around the State House starts to get louder.  This year there will be several bills that engineers will be interested in.  S. 892 was pre filled on December, 12 2007 and referred to the Senate Finance Committee. 

S. 892 is a bill amending Article 3, Chapter 11 of Title 11 of the 1976 Code relating to the General Fund and The Capital Reserve Fund.  This bill will establish the Transportation Maintenance Fund, to provide that two percent of the General Fund Revenue of the latest completed fiscal year be put in the “Transportation Maintenance Fund”.  This fund will be used to offset revenue shortfalls and provide money to be deposited in the SCDOT Non-Federal Aid Highway Fund.

This Fund “Transportation Maintenance Reserve Fund” will be used for the maintenance of roads not eligible for federal funds or for the replacement, maintenance and repair of bridges or to obtain matching federal funds for the replacement, maintenance and repair of bridges.  S. 892 among other bills will be monitored by ACEC-SC and SCSPE this legislative year.
