Former SCSPE President L.G. “Skip” Lewis, Jr., PE, F.NSPE Offers for Seat on the SC Department of Transportation Commission
L. G. “Skip” Lewis, a former SCSPE President, sat before the Joint Transportation Review Committee Feb. 7 where he was interviewed by this panel to see if he will be recommended to the First Congressional District delegation for election to the SC DOT Commission.
Lewis’ competition for this position is Charles E. Dalton, CEO of the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative.
Lewis’ qualifications included managing an engineering company, serving as an arbitrator and mediator, chairman of the SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors and numerous other achievements.
The Joint Transportation Review Committee interviewed 10 individuals interested in a seat on the DOT Commission. Commission Seats being vacated represent the First, Third and Fifth Congressional Districts. Five people were interviewed for the First District while two were from the Third District, and three from the Fifth District were interviewed.
The JTRC met in executive session following the interviews to discuss the candidates. When the committee reconvened, the Chairman, Senator Grooms announced no decisions on any of the 10 candidates were made. No date was set to announce the committee’s decisions.
Serving on the Joint Transportation Review Committee are Chair Sen. Lawrence K. Grooms (R-Berkeley), Vice-Chair, Rep. James H. Lucas (R-Darlington), Rep. Nathan Ballentine (R-Lexington), Mr. Reid Banks, Mr. Robert W. Harrell, Sr., Sen. Hugh Leatherman (R-Florence), Sen. Gerald Malloy (D-Darlington), Sen. Glenn F. McConnell (R-Charleston), Sen. Daniel B. Verdin, III, (R-Laurens) and Rep. Annette D. Young (R-Dorchester).
