State MathCounts Team Applauded by
State House of Representatives

After a morning of working math problems, the MathCounts Team, Coach John Rushman and State coordinator, Marguerite McClam, went to visit the State House where they were introduced to the House of Representatives and were applauded for their accomplishments.  Representative Jim Harrison, Chip Huggins, Scott Tally and Phillip Shoopman, PE recognized the team, Coach, and Ms. McClam.

South Carolina’s MathCounts team practiced for the national competition in Denver, CO May 8-11, 2008.  Coach John Rushman and Mathletes Elliot Chartock, Columbia SC, Hardie Cate, Columbia SC, Sam Collinsworth, Columbia, SC, and Matthew DeAngelis, Moore, SC, worked with Ms. Marguerite McClam, State MathCounts coordinator, Thursday preparing for the big competition next month.

Coach John Rushman teaches 7th and 8th grade mathematics at Crayton Middle School.  His team placed first in the state MathCounts competition.  Coach Rushman has had eight winning teams from Crayton Middle School over the years; he is a seasoned National MathCounts coach.  Coach Rushman is sure to lead the SC MathCounts team to a high ranking at the National Competition in Denver, CO.

MathCounts is NSPE/SCSPE sponsored program for Sixth through Eighth graders to show their competence and skills in mathematics.  The four students going to the national competition ranked highest at the state competition in Clemson, and had to win their local competition before that.
