2008 Legislative Reception

ACEC-SC and SCSPE, with the help of the American Society of Civil Engineers South Carolina Section held its annual Legislative Reception on Tuesday at the Clarion Town House Hotel in Columbia.   By all accounts this meeting of legislators and engineers was a great success.

With 70 Legislatures in attendance, 95 engineers were able to get quality one on one time with House and Senate members from their district.   This opportunity of speaking directly to Senators or House members gave engineers a chance to voice their opinions about the current issues before the legislature this year.   Engineers were able to let the legislature know where the Engineering Community stands on issues such as: transportation and infrastructure, changes in the State Procurement Code, protecting the public through engineering, selecting design professionals and other general business issues. 

This reception and the time engineers spent with legislators will definitely help influence bills that effect engineers.  Mark your calendars for the 2009 Legislative Reception, January 20, 2009 at the Clarion Town House Hotel in Columbia.
