Important Events at March 11 SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors The Mar. 11 meeting of the SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors is certainly the story in the engineering and surveying communities because a lot happened at this meeting that affects both professions. First, Ms. Theresa Hodge, PE, attended the meeting as one of the two new gubernatorial appointees. She replaces Mr. Mitchell Tibshrany, PE. Mr. Charles M. (Chuck) Joye, PE, has also been appointed by the Governor but could not attend the March meeting because he received the notice of his appointment over the weekend, which did not allow him to adjust his schedule to attend. Mr. Joye replaces Ms. Gaye Sprague, PE. Second, Mr. Charles Ido, former Registration Board investigator and the supervisor “is moving on” After 19 years with the Board. He has accepted a new position within LLR, and will no longer be working with the Engineers and Surveyors Board. Mr. Steven Freshley is replacing him as supervisor. However, Mr. Todd Bonds remains the investigator for the Board. Chair ML Love thanked Mr. Ido for his service to the board and asked if the Board might call on him for his long experience and institutional memory with the Board. Mr. Ido agreed. Third, the board recognized two new Internal Review Committee members. This committee is called to review disciplinary issues reported to the Registration Board and make recommendations after reviewing complaints. Mr. Rick Inman, PLS, and Mr. Hollis Walker, PE, are joining the IRC as alternates. Continuing on the IRC are Mr. Bill Knowles, PE, Mr. Al Whitworth, PLS, Mr. Todd Bonds and Ms. Jan Simpson. The IRC also has an LLR staff attorney. Mr. Whitworth informed the Registration Board he has been affiliated with the Board since 1988 as a Board Member, IRC member and other capacities, and he plans to wind down his work with the Board. Fourth, the Registration Board passed a policy establishing who can set “control monuments.” |
