SCDOT Ushers in New Commissioners and New Chair Thursday’s Mar. 20 SCDOT Commission meeting was the changing of the guard with three new commissioners and a new Commission Chair. Two of the three new commissioners had taken their oaths of office prior to Thursday’s meeting and sat as voting members while the third, Ms. Sarah Nukcles from Rock Hill, Fifth Congressional District, was present but did not participate in voting because she had not officially taken the seat held by DOT Commission Chair, Bobby Jones. Mr. Danny Isaac from Myrtle Beach replaces Mr. Joe Young of Georgetown representing the First Congressional District, and Mr. Charles Dalton of Pickens replaces Mr. Marion Carnell of Ware Shoals on the Third Congressional District. Mr. Carnell and Mr. Young received resolutions from the SCDOT for their service on the commission. Mr. Bobby Jones presided over the meeting as Chair and noted in his parting remarks he had served with many commissioners during his 20-year tenure. Jones also received an SCDOT resolution. Mr. Hugh Atkins was elected Commission Chair. He represents the Fourth Congressional District and lives in Spartanburg. His current term on the commission began in 2006, and he previously served on the commission from 1998 to 2002. Mr. Atkins is a graduate of Clemson University and has served in leadership positions in the real estate industry for the past 40 years. In 1995, he received the state’s highest honor, the Order of the Palmetto. He is married with two daughters. Returning commissioners are Mr. Tee Hooper of Greenville, the commissioner at large, Mr. Henry Taylor of West Columbia representing the Second Congressional District and Mr. Marvin Stevenson of Marion representing the Sixth Congressional District, and Mr. Atkins. |
