Teens Offered a Taste of Engineering

South Carolina teens in Richland/Lexington District 5 and Richland 1 are getting a taste of engineering in high school, with hopes that they continue in the field when they go to college.

“Project Lead the Way” is a not-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses for middle and high school students. PLTW forms partnerships with public schools, higher education institutions and the private sector to increase the quantity and quality of engineers and engineering technologists graduating from our educational system.

Chapin High School, Dutch Fork High School, and Irmo High School in conjunction with the University of South Carolina will be taking part in the “Project Lead the Way” in South Carolina.  This program gives high school students hands on experience in what majoring in engineering is like.  PLTW and other programs like MathCounts encourage students to consider Engineering as a career.
