 2008 Legislative Reception
ACEC-SC and SCSPE, with the help of ASCE is pleased to announce its annual Legislative Reception at the Clarion Town House Hotel in Columbia on January 22, 2008. The Legislative reception will last from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Governor Makes Registration Board Appointments
In early January, Governor Sanford reappointed all but two of the seated SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors members.
Appointments to Registration Board Still on hold
ACEC-SC and SCSPE made recommendations for individuals to take seats on the SC Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors months ago, and the Governor has not acted.
Volunteers May be Getting Closer for Liability Coverage
Pat Jenkins, PE, has been working with his Volunteer Engineer Corps in Greenville for a number of years. He anticipates taking the program statewide at some point, but professional liability and workers’ compensation coverage has been a sticking point in his progress.
2008 Workers' Compensation Battle
Last fall, Governor Stanford signed three executive orders directing the SC Workers’ Compensation Commission (WCC) to do several things, including basing their decisions for payments on strict American Medical Association guidelines.
ACEC-SC and SCSPE Partner to Host Winter Meeting
ACEC-SC and SCSPE have scheduled the first annual Winter Meeting for February 27 at Saluda Shoals Park, River Center. Various DHEC sessions will be offered and more. Mark your calendar now, more details to come.
2008 Engineering Excellence Awards
The ACEC-SC Engineering Excellence Awards is February 21 at the Columbia Museum of Art located at 1515 Main Street Columbia, SC 29201.
 ACEC-SC Fall Golf Tournament
ACEC-SC held its second annual Fall Golf Tournament on October 29, 2007 in Charleston at Dunes West Golf Club. With 17 teams from across South Carolina the tournament was a success both in fellowship and fundraising.
ACEC-SC & SCSPE Call for Convention Programs
With the ACEC-SC and SCSPE convention only 6 months away, ACEC-SC and SCSPE would like to get input from its members.
 2008 ACEC-SC & SCSPE Annual Convention & Tradeshow
Well the New Year is here and as usual ACEC-SC/SCSPE is planning its Annual Convention and Tradeshow. This year the convention will be held June 12-15 at Daufuskie Island Resort off the Coast of Hilton Head.
Legislative Watch: S892
As the New Year gets closer, the usual buzz around the State House starts to get louder. This year there will be several bills that engineers will be interested in. S. 892 was pre filled on December, 12 2007 and referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
Jones Attends ACEC Executive Directors Meeting
The National Association of Consulting Engineers Council met in Phoenix in December to discuss national and state issues, and Joe Jones, ACEC-SC Executive Director, attended.
