Annual Member Firm Certification
Each year in April, primary contacts (or their designees) at ACEC member firms are asked to "certify" the information about their firm contained in the ACEC database. Attention principal or primary contacts, please click the link review the information from ACEC and update your firms information.

ACEC-SC / SCSPE Speakers at Annual SC Council of Engineering & Surveying Societies Joint Meeting Gave Good Advice
ACEC-SC and SCSPE sponsored three speakers at the Annual SCCESS Joint Meeting held at the Citadel March 29; their topics and information were good and timely.

Senate Labor Commerce & Industry Sends Weakened Sprinkler Bill to Senate Floor
According to The State newspaper, the Senate LCI reported out the fire sprinkler bill – S 860 – with strong support, but Senator Glenn Reese (D-Spartanburg) placed an objection on the bill, which hurts its chance of passage this session.

Senate Transportation Committees Deal with SC Department of Transportation Regulations
The SCDOT promulgated regulations as a result of the DOT Reform Act 114 that was passed last year. A Senate Transportation Subcommittee and then the full committee held hearings on the regulations April 2.

Senator McConnell Introduces Bill that Would Remove the Board of Accountancy from the Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation
The interesting point about this legislation is that, if passed, it would take the CPAs out of LLR, and might lead the way for other regulatory boards to leave LLR, such as the SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.

South Carolina Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies Meet to Review Recent Activities
The SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies (SCCESS) reviewed the recent appointments of SC State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors by Governor Sanford, a dinner for the Registration Board, the Joint Meeting and future plans.

State MathCounts Team Applauded by State House of Representatives
After a morning of working math problems, the MathCounts Team, Coach John Rushman and State coordinator, Marguerite McClam, went to visit the State House where they were introduced to the House of Representatives and were applauded for their accomplishments.  Representative Jim Harrison, Chip Huggins, Scott Tally and Phillip Shoopman, PE recognized the team, Coach, and Ms. McClam.

14th Annual ACEC-SC Scholarship Golf Tournament-Register Now
ACEC-SC’s Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament is next month.  This tournament has provided scholarships to rising juniors and seniors at ABET accredited South Carolina Colleges for the last 13 years.  This year’s tournament is April 24, 2008 at Crickentree Golf Club in Blythewood, SC.

Teens Offered a Taste of Engineering
South Carolina teens in Richland/Lexington District 5 and Richland 1 are getting a taste of engineering in high school, with hopes that they continue in the field when they go to college.

Be a voice in the 2008-2009 ACEC-SC Annual Planning Retreat on April 18-20 at Litchfield Plantation. Where members and the board of directors set the direction for the upcoming year.  It is crucial for ACEC-SC to have a plan in place for the 2008-2009 year.
