Awards,

The American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC) has named D. Brice Urquhart, PE, Senior Vice President of Davis & Floyd, as its 2026 Engineer of the Year.

Presented during the South Carolina Engineering Conference & Trade Show on June 5, the award recognizes an individual whose professional accomplishments, leadership, service to the profession and commitment to public welfare exemplify the highest standards of consulting engineering.

Urquhart has spent more than three decades advancing transportation infrastructure projects across the United States. A Clemson University graduate with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering, he spent 20 years with FIGG Bridge Engineers working on major bridge and transportation projects valued at more than $1 billion nationwide.

Since joining Davis & Floyd in 2015, Urquhart has helped expand the firm’s transportation and construction engineering services throughout South Carolina. Today, he leads the firm’s Transportation and CEI sectors across six offices statewide.

Over the past year, Urquhart led the completion of the Palmetto Commerce Interchange project, one of the largest transportation projects in Davis & Floyd’s history. He also served as lead designer on multiple SCDOT design-build bridge packages that incorporated innovative solutions and cost-saving technologies.

In addition to his professional achievements, Urquhart was elected President of ACEC-SC on June 4 and is actively involved in transportation policy and infrastructure advocacy through leadership roles with the Infrastructure Works Institute and the S.C. Alliance to Fix Our Roads.

“Brice embodies the technical excellence, servant leadership and commitment to the profession that this award represents,” said Ben Temple of ECS Southeast, LLC, past president of the ACEC-SC board. “His impact can be seen not only in major infrastructure projects but also in the future leaders he helps develop.”
